The Elan-Sha' - - - (ee-lon sha')
"The Most Holy and Righteous Angels of Science"
- Space faring eyumons that are tall, pale, and characteristically attractive with notable pointed ears. While the ear points seem relatively cosmetic, they are a notable sign of Elan bloodlines. Elan technology touts the ability to transfer memory and information using nano-RNA storage, often leaving relevant data in storage on objects long after the defenders have fallen. Misuse of such technology has resulted in religious and mystical cults around some lost Elan objects among other less technically advanced species.
They are most accurrately described as a tall, slender, space-faring-variant of eyumon with very pale alabaster white skin. Elan are notoriously resilient despite their build, touting extremely strong bones and high endurance well beyond their exposure to hostile atmospheres and wide gravity variances common in space travel.
It is strongly held that the Elan do not age or die naturally as other life forms do over time. It is also said that they can manipulate their apparent age or at least arrest the process through some technology or inate ability.
More noticable than the physical characteristics and seemingly flawless stock of the Elan genetic markers is the Elan style of martial combat. Elan-Sha, the shock troops of Elan military action, utilize a full body armor of elegant and ornate design that defies conventional description. Folding wings, dynamic polymorphic metal extensions, sound-dampening cloaks, optical light-scattering devices, gravity nullifiers, and various components render the presence of the Elan-Sha on the battlefield seemingly supernatural.
It is widely believed that accounts of Angels have often been attributed to intervention of Elan shock troops in primative civilizations. The mere sight of a fully armored Elan-Sha is deeply intimidating for the uninitiated. Elan are trained to support this image with a fierce sense of performance and constant ritual meant to maintain the mental 'role' as a fighting force capable of more than ordinary men - much like American Marines.
How much the Elan believe this dogma is highly debated. Uncontested is the impact it has on combat and endurance against genetically stronger and more durable foes like the Sanguineand Dracos, who operate in overwhelming numbers. Against such a foe, the Elan fight for effect in small forces or alone, frequently aiding others in an effort to multiply their forces. Having chosen the weaker side these battles do not always end well for the allies of the Elan, leading to a grave distrust and myths of their duplicity long after the planets they defended fell.
In truth, the Elan must pick their battles and frequently lack the raw materials and forces to drive back their enemies without destorying all life upon a world - which is not their preferred strategy even in horrific conflict with deadly mutations of the Sanguine genus. They are known to leave "Hell Worlds" behind, rather than burn them to the stones as other cultures frequently do upon call of a general retreat. Their experience at fighting the weapons of the pre-Cataclysm era leads them to trust such atrocities will not endure for long after the fighting has subsided, and life will survive without taking extreme measures even if civilizations rise and fall as their result.
