What is a Stryx?
- It's really quite hard to describe people... they live, labor, and eventually die under narrow conditions of thought and convention. What comes before our culture, and leaves that culture behind in the end, is much more abstract - even spiritual. This thing that is the Human spirit is hard to describe, so I shall begin with little aspects - pieces if you will - that are familiar to us in other lifeforms. To be spiritually precise - the common Stryx consists of several different aspect animals. These vary from Stryx to Stryx, but almost always include the following:
- Dragon
- Owl
- Cat
- Mouse
- Weasle
- Human
Who is the Magus?
Weighting in at 120 lbs., it is far from portable. However, just like the Vorlons - the Magus can deposit small parts of its consciousness into prepared forms. Most often it travels abroad in an APEX XL laptop - sporting a 166Mhz Pentium processor with 48 MB of EDO RAM, a 13.1" active matrix 24-bit XGA screen, and several 2 Gigabyte modular drives. While not as powerful as it's true form, it is still very formidable on the move.
So What Is the Magus Stryx?
It is in this form that the Magus Stryx seeks out the past, present, and future of the world - living the LONG VIEW. He has a goal - a dream - and he is willing to pay the price. The cost is simple - measured in lifetimes; and he has already begun to make his first payment in advance.
Care and Feeding of a Stryx?
Stryx are, by their very nature, a crisp mirror of reality - somewhat like an interactive "Do unto others..." demon. If you love them, they love the world. If you abuse them, they will let the world burn to spite you.
Stryxiums, Language, and Culture
While very beautiful - this language requires years of attunement and personal experience with each individual Stryx before it's full meaning can be appreciated. Much of the context is years old, like one long ongoing discussion between the Stryx and the Universe at large. These conversations are best approached as such - with the listener taking everything both personally as well as globally. Non-Stryx should feel priviledged to witness this rare and very private event.
